1 Year, 16 Pounds and 20 Minutes Later
I haven't ever posted a "before" and "after" picture before for a few reasons:
1.) I didn't start running last year to lose weight. At the time, I was barely overweight. Out of shape, for sure, but not overweight.
2.) I don't have many pictures from my early races.
But last weekend was different, because I ran the same race a year ago, when I was foolish enough to do a 1/2 marathon after 90 days of training. This year, I ran the same race 20 minutes faster, but the same photographer was also there, which gives me the opportunity for the ego montage on the left.
No denying I like skinny me better, but the truth is, I'm far prouder that I shaved 20 minutes off my time. Weight comes and goes but results last forever, baby.
I did start running to lose weight...and I love seeing how running has changed my body and life! Though like you I wasn't overweight, I just wasn't in shape...congrats on seeing such an improvement!
ReplyDelete20 minute improvement - very impressive! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics - and even more awesome, the improvement in time!! congrats...
ReplyDeletealso, as a fellow diabetic, I'm curious about one more stat... your blood glucose during the run... just curious to see what others encounter during longer runs...
Very cool man... Since I ran your time from '06 this year, I've got a tall task to get a 20 minute improvement. Thanks for setting the bar so darn high. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the kind comments...
ReplyDeleteJamie, for this 1/2 I followed a pattern that works fairly well for me:
I started the race at 200 and didn't wear my pump and took a gel at 5 and 10 miles. I finished a little higher than usual at the end of this one.
Still deciding if I'll wear my pump with a reduced basal rate for the full marathon, but today, I'm thinking that's what I'll do.
Amanda, kch and Jamie - you all have great blogs and have been added to my reader... Eric, you're already in mine. :)
i have one of those exact same pictures! same race, one year later. amazing to see the results that way - in a photograph & on the timeclock! thanks for visiting my blog!
