Garmin 405 in My Future?

As impressed as I was with the Garmin 405 introduction, I'd planned on waiting to buy it... First off, I had a perfectly fine 305. Moreover, some of the reviews indicate that the first batch might be a bit wonky.

But then last week, the screen faded out at the end of a run and today, it completely faded out mid-way through and hasn't come back since, despite a full recharge. The prognosis isn't very good.

I'd bought the 305 online but don't want to risk an online retailer for the new 405. Coincidentally, I'd gotten a postcard from my favorite local retailer who's having a tent sale next week. I called them up and - sure enough - they carry the Forerunners and they have the 405.

I'll give the 305 five days to repair itself and - if not - I'll be picking up a 405. Not because I have three hundred clams burning a hole in my pocket, but because I'm truly in love with the Forerunners - even if they only last 14 months, as my 305 has.

    Maybe you should upgrade to the 301, mine's still going strong after 33 months.

    I held off getting the 305 since the 301 was doing it's job, though I might look into the 405.

    I've had good dealings with Garmin tech support assuming you can stand the agonizing hold time to talk to someone. I've had my ForeRunner 305 repaired under warranty and Garmin also repaired my wife's auto GPS which was out of warranty by 6 months or so for just the cost of shipping.

    OTOH, the 405s look sweet and I'd love to hear your review, so good luck whichever way you go.

    I love my 205 - think it's about 1 1/2 old and it's still going strong (knock wood). I have been lusting after the 405s though - much better look, for one thing.

The gun in my basement.

In my basement, I have a safe. And in that safe, under expired passports and birth certificates, there's a gun. It's unloaded. Hasn't been loaded in probably twenty years, and yet every time I take it out, I check to make sure. If you're a gun nerd, it's a 9 shot .22 revolver. On this website , it says that "it is true that many people have been killed by a .22 LR in the course of history," but the writer concludes that this weapon is a bad choice for self defense. I didn't buy it for self defense. I didn't even buy it. It was my father's and after he died, my mother gave it me, along with an Elgin watch he'd worn for years. The watch was weathered and worn and I took it to be restored. The jeweler refused, saying it was worthless. Two decades later, the watch is still in my jewelry box. I love the funny video series making its way around the Net. It started with Shit Girls Say, and has spawned many funny sequels. But none for diabetics, until now!
